The 2009 Big Brother Africa winner, Kevin Pam visited the department of mass communication, the University of Jos on the 23rd of November for an interactive class with students of MAC 222, (reality TV and development) which lasted for an hour.

Kevin Pam was ushered into the faculty by the assistant course lecturer, Mr. Ernest Daniang and some students of mass communication, where he paid a visit to the course lecturer, Dr. Sarah Lwahas, the immediate past HoD of the department of mass communication in her office, from where they proceeded to the lecture hall.

After an introduction by the course lecturer, Kevin Pam recounted how he was unable to win other reality TV shows explaining his challenges and rejections before his breakthrough at the 2009 Big Brother Africa reality show, as the first plateau indigene and the first Nigerian to claim the $200,000 prize money.

He stated his experiences while struggling to make it to Big Brother Africa and that it all started in his university days when he was the director of socials, University of Jos and according to him “I’ll never trade the experience I got in the University of Jos for anything at all.”

He also stated that life as a celebrity has its own “advantages and disadvantages ” and according to him, it has opened many opportunities to him and has also made him lose out on some opportunities, like an opportunity to build a relationship with the King of Swaziland which he couldn’t utilize.

According to him, he went to the Big Brother Africa reality show knowing that he will win it while using some strategies and being himself.

He used the occasion to talk about his experience before, during and after the reality TV show. He also gave his general opinion on the various reality shows that on the airwaves and answered a number of questions from the students and from Dr. Sarah Lwahas.

Kevin Pam, who now manages his own company, Downtoearth entertainment, used his experience to inspire students who will like to enroll in the show and according to him “you can only achieve anything you want to achieve if you believe in yourself above any other thing”.
