The Student’s Union Government (SUG) of the University of Jos led by the President, Luka Samson, recently visited her student Ekeleme, Peter Obinna, a 23-year-old final year student of the Department of Art Education who was affected by a gas explosion. Mother of the victim, Mrs. Joy Ekeleme, explained to the SUG that the event happened on the 5th of July 2017, while the victim was in the process of lighting up a gas stove. According to the doctor’s report, she showed the SUG, Peter was said to have sustained flame burns to the head and neck, trunk, upper limbs, and thighs. An assessment of 40% mixed thickness flames burn was made as more investigations were carried out and he was nursed in the intensive care unit for two months at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos. He is currently been managed on outpatient bases and would require further surgeries, rehabilitation, and physiotherapy. The sum of N15 million is required to conduct a plastic surgery on Peter according to his mother.
