Water scarcity in the New General Hostel Alleviated with New Pump

Occupants of the New General Hostel popularly known as P.G Hostel recently raised a cry on the lack of water supply.

Thereby forcing occupants to either fetch water from the tanks behind the hostel or patronize ”fetch water women”.  This hasn’t been easy for students financially. Some occupants of the hostel described the situation as awful and terrible and call on school management to take immediate and drastic action.

UJONLINE observed that usually, students prefer staying on campus than staying off-campus. The reasons being that it is easy to access basic amenities like light, water and a short distance to lecture halls.

A male student (Ben Attoh) from the B block of the hostel says since the beginning of this semester water has not flowed into his room. He also complained about the filled sewage at the male B block.

A female student (Rabiat Ishaku) from the A block describes the situation as better than it was at the beginning of the session. A female student also complained of how water is made available to certain rooms.

An interview with the matron of the hostel (Mrs. Grace Dokotri) gave us more insight into the scarcity.

She said the top pumping machine got spoilt for months and the school management did not respond swiftly to it. She also blamed students for the poor maintenance of the equipment.

Meanwhile, a new pumping machine was installed some weeks ago. This would aid less spending of funds from the occupants of the New General Hostel.
